Beaver Moon 2024
solarpunk, lifelong projects, commerce on the web, work (and the rest that follows), late night and morning meditations
What began as a one-off online writing session has now become a cozy weekly writing group. One of the ways I thought of sharing what we do is through a newsletter—what better rhythm than each full moon?
We’re writing from all around the world, yet we can all look up at the same moon to feel connected. Finding poetry in everyday life is a good thing, I think.
You know how each full moon has a name, right? Well, this month’s is the Beaver Moon! Hence the beaver.
It was a joy putting these pieces together. This full moon, you’ll find a spark of solarpunk, a meditation on what a lifelong project might be, reflections on buying a business entirely online, a poem on what it means to work and rest, and, finally, some late-night and morning thoughts captured on paper.
Best wishes,
Tim
All the electricity you'll need for 40+ years
Yes, we're up against huge challenges—species and habitat loss is a greater threat than ever, we have not learned how to exist without war, and climate disasters are on the rise.
And yet... hope is a precious resource and I feel nourished to sit and drink from its oasis. I hadn't realized how sad it was to believe that the future will be worse than the present.
But... what if it's not?

Holy Grail Projects
While talking to my younger brother, he said off-handedly that he knew I'd been thinking deeply about an idea, that for me, would be my life's work, but he referred to it as my Holy Grail Project, and that phrase so accurately captures how much the project means to me, that it has become a meta-North Star, if you will.

My Experience of Using Escrow.com to Acquire Two Apps
Buying things is the very core of any business. It's simple when you can do things in person. You come to see something, you can inspect it right there, and if you like it, you hand in the cash, and pick up the item right away.
It's slightly harder when the seller and the buyer are separated by thousands of kilometres.

Poem: Chasing Shadows (2020)
well, thanks, i’m not-so-glad you asked
i’m playing a game, and my opponent is masked
we’re dancing in darkness — the matter is life
the unknown my husband, deception his wife

2 am is a place
Both the big dreams and the big questions come to meet me at this time; old friends at the bar. I understand why people call each other over when it gets this late. They gnaw at you, The Questions. When you are held in someone's arms, you realize that they don't have to be answered, and perhaps they're not actually meant to be.
Morning & Night
Somehow, I find myself kissing his skin throughout his body in the morning; sleepy eyes got nothing on me. It’s easy to start from the back and trail wherever he lets me. He has to leave for work soon, so I do what I can to leave an imprint, for me to have fun and him to remember.
His eyes are round. They’re round as much as my eyes are sharp. My cheeks hollow, defining, as much as his are full and plush.
His lips—I always tell him his lips are my favorite feature, but he can never remember.
“My eyes?” he’d guess when I try to nudge his memory.
That’s my second favorite, I’d tell him. His features – I can look at them forever. It’s rather hypnotic in the ways that the line starts where it ends in an infinite loop.
If I were to do a gesture drawing of us, his line would move in curves, full of bends and life. Mine is jagged, like broken glass, but strong in motion. My features thin and frail and his an abundance to give. And I like that. Everything feels soft, warm, and gentle.
The day will come when I see his skin age with time. I’ll see its pathways before they even develop. Our skin will have been weathered and roughened by life. His eyes will sag, and the crow’s feet of my eyes will crack like earthquakes. And by that time still, I’ll rest against him, knowing his body will mold to my jagged bones.
